Oh Christmas is right around the corner and this year I am a little behind.  Maybe its because Thanksgiving was the last week of November?  Oh I dunno- but my goodness its coming fast!  Good ol' Buddy made an appearance after Thanksgiving and the kids are super excited.  He has been hanging around the house- doin' who knows what.  I mean since he is sitting at home all day- he could wrap the presents?  He could make a nice dinner for us so I don't have to cook when I get home.  VFllors need to be done and there are lots of leaves that still need to be raked and bagged....

The kids found Buddy this morning on Julia's Puppy- "Pinkalicious"
I guess he was playing last night while we were sleeping!

My Christmas Helper....she helped me do all of our Christmas cards

Dave and I attended Julia very sweet Thanksgiving program at school.   She was chosen to be a Native American and I have to say-- she was very cute.  She looked more like Pocahontas though!  Many of you know that she can be extremely shy around large crowds and people she doesn't know yet-- tu she did great singing, dancing and even talked in the microphone.  She shared that she was "Thankful for Food..."  thats my girl!

Waiting to enter the program!

Where's Julia-- smack dab in the middle...can you see her?

Julia shared...."I'm Thankful for Food..."

Each year we carve pumpkins with the kids and this year we doubled it up with my birthday celebration. Everyone brought their own pumpkins for carving and boy did we have FUN!  My mom had never carved a pumpkin before and I think she really had fun!  From gooey hands, slimy fingers and lots of messes- it was total fun and can't wait to do it again next year.

This year we had a small Halloween Party at our house and we are so thankful our friends were able to share in the crazy fun!  Dave and I usually don't dress up to take the kids trick-or treating this year but since we were having a par-tay...why not!  Here are the costumes for this year!

The kids also had a parade at school so I took some snapshots of them as well.

Yup--- David was Fruit Ninja!  Homemade Costume!

Here they are to save the day!  Wonder Woman & Super Man

It has been over a month since the Navy Yard Shootings and this is the first time I wanted to really talk about that day.

I was so excited for that particular Monday because I had a new employee starting that day and I was looking forward to training her and getting her in the door to wok with other team members.  Early that morning I heard about the shots being fired at the Navy Yard in building 197 and my heart stopped for just a quick second.  I could feel it.  I had that feeling on 9/11 when Dave was in DC.  I had that feeling the moment my dad passed.  I had that feeling when the doctors told me that my baby was having a difficult time and they needed to do an emergency C-section IMMEDIATELY.  I had that feeling when they had to do an emergency C-section with Julia becuase she was having a hard time in my belly.  I knew that feeling and my heart stopped.

A few minutes later, a friend sent me an article that had a picture of a man in khaki pants laying on the street.  What color were the pants that Dave had on this morning?  I couldn't remember as it was so dark when he left. I closed the article.  I couldn't read it.  I couldn't look at it.

I knew about building 197 becuase Dave is always in there doing some kind of work.

Finally....He called me a few minutes after I found out about the shooting and told me he was heading into 197 for a maintenance.  He was going into the  building and someone came running out and mentioned the shootings.  Dave immediately ran into the building across the street and I knew where he was.  That was it.  He said he loved me and had to get off the phone.

1 hour...  2 hours... 3 hours had passed and not a word from him.
Family and friends were texting and calling me.  I had no answers for them.
I stopped watching TV at work.  I refused to watch it.
I stopped listening to the radio.  I refused to listen to it.
I stopped checking the internet for updates. I continued to train my new employee.
I kept repeating to myself that he would call me.
He would call.
He will call me.
I took my employee out to lunch.  When we left I saw I had a mesage and missed call.  HOW COULD I NOT HAVE SERVICE IN THE RESTAURANT!

Message:  "Babe- they are checking IDs, asking questions, FBI and police are here.  I don't know anything else or if there is still another shooter out there.  I don't have much battery life.  I will try to call you later. I love you"

I felt my stomach drop.  How could I have missed his call?

More time had passed and I had to get the kids from school.  What was I going to say as they know daddy is always at the bus stop in the afternoon. They got off the bus and immediately asked for daddy...I just hugged them real tight.

Reports were saying that family members can meet at Nationals Park. More reports were saying that exit ramps were closed to Nationals Park.  How am I going to get to Dave?  What do I tell the kids?

3:30 p.m.- my phone rang with an unkown number on the caller ID.  It was Dave.  Someone let him use their phone.  This person also gave him money so he can get on the metro and go home.  I grabbed the kids from the bus stop and we left the house.

My heart was sad as I drove up to the metro station.  So many people were wandering around...no wallets, no phones, no keys....just searching for their loved ones in the parking lot.  Then I saw him sitting in the front of the metro station.  He looked tired and exhausted.  He had no money, no wallet, no keys, no car, no food. I just wanted HIM home.  All those other things can be replaced.  I ran and hugged him so tightly.  My chest still hurt and I was shaking.

I would never want anyone else to feel how I felt that day. I had to keep telling myself that he was coming home to me. He had to come home to me.

I keep telling people that you should enjoy your life.  Life is too short to worry about all the nonsense that comes with it.
LOVE one another.
FORGIVE eachother
Be THANKFUL for what you have and for who you have in your life.

Work will be there tomorrow.  Chores will be there tomorrow.  People are so busy these days that they forget to enjoy time together.  You never know what God has planned for you- so live your life, enjoy it, don't be too busy, don't work all the time, have time to play, laugh, eat chocolate and don't worry about the small things.  Spend as much time was you can with those you love- because life is too short.

We had this very very gold chandelier in our dinning room.  Although we hardly use the dinning room, we  had to bring this light fixture to 2013.  I told Dave that it was "easy" to do and I even gave him the instructions.

The total cost of the project was $29.00!

  • $21 for shades
  • $5 for the spray paint
  • $3 for Wool Pads
  • 2 bottles of beer for Dave....FREE!

Much better than having to purchase a brand new light fixture I think....and very proud of our project becuase we did it ourselves!

Gold light...very gold

Dave had to clean and use a wool type of material to scrub the light down a bit.
Then SPRAY!

Shades were purchased from Amazon.com

Tada!

Redskins Kids Club- Suites Baby

With Matthew being part of the Redskins Kids Club we get to enjoy some of the perks that come along with being a member.  We were recently invited to watch a movie (Despicable Me) at FedEx Field in their SUITES!  Yes!  We also had a tour of the locker room, check out the ins/outs of the stadium, saw the coach's office, Redskins Cheerleaders Locker room, opponents area and best of all....Dave and Matthew were able to walk around the locker room, see the health room and walk the same tunnel that the players go through.

David was in awe. I swear I thought he needed a chair when he walked through the Redskins Tunnel.  Our conversation in the tunnel:

David- "Honey...do you feel it?"
MGD- "What?  What's wrong???"
David- "The excitement!  You know..when they are coming down the tunnel, crashing their heads into one another...running down the tunnel...the screaming fans..."
MGD- "oh yeah..... Ummm...nope...don't feel it.  Do you want a chair to sit on?  You look a little light-headed?"

It was an awesome experience and we can't wait to go to the next event.  The suites were LOVELY and oh so nice, the attention to detail and the personal assistance that is provided to them in the suites!  The bathrooms were also very nice which is a PLUS in my book!  The leather, the food, the concourse....I can now understand why the tickets would cost so much to sit up there.  Plus those 'special" ticket holders get their name in a parking spot :)

The suites for the Kids Club Members!

Just hanging out in one of the luxury areas of the concourse in the suites level.

I love bags.  I love shoes.  I love clothes.   I'm afraid to say it but Julia definatly takes after me!  I had to get a new laptop for work after my old one continued to crash.  So when I received my new work laptop I decided- why not get a new bag to go with it??  Forget the old black laptop bags- I needed something edgy. Bold color...super cute...and we can't forget functional.  I have to walk around campus from meeting to meeting so it has to have a strap.  It has to have enough room for my cellphone, wallet, ID, notebook...lip gloss.

Found this adorable bag from Amazon.com and it's a hard shell case which is perfect for those rough days when I am running around campus.  It has pockets inside to fit all kinds of fun things I need for meetings and it protects my work laptop.  Take a look and let me know what you think!

Lovely Pink color with removable and adjustable shoulder strap

Love the inside..look at all the pockets!

Just perfect!

Shoes, Shoes and More shoes

As you know Julia is a girly-girl.  She isn't really into sports like her brother.  She doesn't have a competitive streak in her at all.  She could care less what teams are playing this weekend. She does gymnastics but does it for fun- the minute it gets competitive she is OUT!  She is tired of watching and hearing about ESPN.  What she does care about is what colors the teams are wearing.  She is amazed when the teams have a little PINK on their uniforms and loves it when commercials are about clothes, shoes and chocolate.  Sound like someone you know??

Well, instead of watching sports Julia loves to try on shoes.  Loves to try on scarfs, accessories, sweaters and war them around the house.  The girl has been wearing 3-4 inch heels since she could walk.  Here are just a few snapshots of her going throug my closet as we were getting ready tohead out for the day...

Yes- she can bend while wearing 4 inch heels

She LOVES boots!

She can sport the "faux" snake-skin too

Whatever!

Oh...the grocery list is a must in heels
